Pendulum
Playground

a new creation

By johan wellton

an original concept

The tale of us

A wordless story about us, our existence and how we relate to each other and everything. The movement of the lights shape suggestive soundscapes – What we hear leads us into a visual world where the hypnotic experience unfolds.

A world of lightbulbs

An array of lightbulbs are set in motion to create mesmerising formations and sound. We are swept into the air and become part of the spectacular patterns and primal beats they generate. It is all a dream, and we are the music makers.

Different artforms interlaced

Johan Wellton’s creation Pendulum Playground is a new type of platform where various artforms such as object manipulation, aerial acrobatics, dance, music and storytelling are merged into one live experience.

MANAGEMENT & PRODUCTION

Manuscript, concept and technical construction is all set: Johan Wellton’s new audio-visual creation is ready to go into production and we are now looking for partners to take the next big step.

The Evolution of Pendulum Playground

2009-2014

A dream becomes reality

Johan Wellton created the construction of Pendulum Playground during the years 2009-2014. Together with his team he gave life to his vision, step by step from the drawing board to the final construction.

2013

A gigantic Pendulum wave

The laws of physics plays a big role in Pendulum Playground.

The world’s first stage version of the physical pendulum wave phenomenon in large scale format give the light bulbs a life of their own that is hard to describe in words, and calls for being experienced up close live.

2014 - still touring

GLITCH - a first step

Pendulum Playground was originally presented 2014 as a part of Johan’s theatrical experience  GLITCH and has toured theatres and concert halls since then.

2018-2020

The pendulums generate music

The first steps of transforming Pendulum Playground into a gigantic musical instrument in a collaboration with composer and instrument builder Per Moneeo.

Sound and music is merged seamlessly with the movements of the pendulums. What we see is what we hear and vice versa. The impressions blend into one.

2022-2023

Technical upgrade

During 2022-2023 the Pendulum Playground construction was rebuilt from its core. Innovative technical solutions opens up for new and efficient tours in a whole new way.

The construction is now assembled and rigged in less than 4 hours.
The lighting has been replaced with new and energy efficient technology that gives great design possibilities for coming performances.

2023 & onwards

Lab sessions

Johan opens the doors to his Pendulum world, inviting artists within digital music, aerial dance, object manipulation and more to collaborate on innovative cross-disciplinary art.

As part of the new production’s development, he offers research periods featuring live viewings and audience discussions for museums, theaters, studio spaces and more.

Now and beyond

The construction, concept and story is ready for the next full length creation – yet the road forward is still unknown. With significant interest from bookers, we are now seeking partners and a dedicated co-producer to bring the production to completion.

PLAYTIME

The Berlin based musician and composer Lukas Streich has joined the project with his spellbinding sounds. Frida Persson is the most recent artist to jump on board, with an impressive skillset as an Aerial acrobat. Anton Graaf has stepped into the project as well, with his experience from a long career in international circus and theatre.

We create the 45 minute show PLAYTIME, premiere in 2026. This is another step towards creating the full length performance that still lays ahead.

Now and beyond
